ATLANTA - Though most of the attention has been focused on the immigration law and the one allowing local referendums on Sunday alcohol sales, there are many other laws taking effect today in Georgia, including one that raises the age children must continue to use a booster car seat.

Legally, 4 yrs old and 40 lbs. The side of the box says 30 lbs and 37 inches. However, I will NEVER use boosters. They're just not as safe as a 5 pt harness--nothing is. If car manufacturers were smart, they'd be putting in 5 pt harnesses for adults. Seat belts only lock correctly 60 percent of the time. That's a 40 percent chance that your seatbelt won't do a thing to help you in a crash. That rate goes down if it's a rollover crash. Get a Britax Regent or Sunshine Kids Radian 80 which will hold them in a 5 pt harness until 80 lbs. Why risk your child's life for your own personal convenience? You'd feel SO guilty if there was a crash and your child were seriously injured or killed and you could've prevented it just by buying a bigger car seat. Don't use a booster and go straight to the appropriate restraint that will actually work to save your child's life.
